“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do”
H. Jackson Brown Jr.
Honestly, the best thing about travel is not the luxuries you can get, but the new experiences and people you meet. So why should travel be expensive? Here are some travel destinations that would give you an experience of a lifetime without hurting your pocket.
Honduras
Honduras offers pristine beaches and scuba diving that rivals the Red Sea. The country has a great tourist industry and many cheap travel options to choose from. The capital, Tegucigalpa, is a popular destination for history buffs and nature lovers alike. In the north, Puerto Cortes offers a lively port with Spanish heritage and booming banana trade.
Its proximity to the United States (which makes up for more than 70% of international travelers) makes Honduras a prime tourist spot on budget.
Cambodia
Cambodia is another great destination for budget travelers. The country offers gorgeous beaches and steamy jungles, a world heritage site called Angkor Wat, as well as great street food. No matter what kind of traveler you are, you will definitely love this small Asian country. It also offers free visas on arrival for many third-world passports, which makes it a top choice for travelers in Asia.
India
If you want to visit a more developed country on a budget, then look no further than India. It is the only place where you will find luxurious travel options along with cheap travel and food.
India is a huge country, from the Himalayas in the North to sunny beaches in the South. I definitely won’t recommend touring the entire length on a single visit, because then you won’t be doing justice to any of the places. Depending on what kind of travel you prefer, you can choose how you want to spend your holidays.
I would recommend beach lovers to visit coastal towns in Goa & Kerela. If you’re a trekker, then go for the trails in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand. For cultural experiences, you should visit Rajasthan in the West and Uttar Pradesh in Central India, and Kolkata in the East.
Morocco
While the prices in Morocco may not be as low as in India, they are still very affordable when compared to Europe or Southeast Asia. In general, Morocco is one of the cheapest countries to travel to in Africa, especially if you can avoid the tourist traps. There are plenty of places to visit in this region from traditional markets called “souk” to mansions, palaces, and mosques.
Ukraine
Ukraine was always an excellent destination for cheap travel destinations. But the recent war with Russia has destroyed the cities to a good extent. Nevertheless, we hope the war ends soon and we are confident that Ukraine will not take much time to rise again from the ashes. As tourists, we should try to visit such countries, see the damages, show it to the world, and overall help their economy in whatever ways possible.
Ukraine’s capital city, Budapest, is an enchanting city that is a treasure for foodies. In fact, Okroshka (aka “cold soup”) is a refreshing dish that has everything like raw vegetables and the fresh taste of Kvass made from bread. You can eat it with bread, making it a full meal for two people at a very affordable price!
Mystery Tours
While we have already covered some of the popular tourist destinations that you can travel to on a budget, you will still need to plan your travel for the off-season and wait for the best possible airfares & hotel bookings. After all, the most expensive parts of any tour are travel and stay costs. Local food is generally within limits and never a burden.
To avoid the wait time, you can simply view all the latest flight and hotel coupons at Zifup and chose the cheapest option to “anywhere” in the world. Then pack your bag and head straight to the airport. Travel wherever your destiny takes you 🙂
So that’s all folks! I know this article certainly does not do justice to so many more countries & regions out there which are worth traveling to. But at least this gives you a good idea of where to start if you are traveling on a budget. Let me know in the comments where you packed off to.
